    About the role


    IDC’s European Telco 2025 research team focus on the role telcos (e.g. BT, Orange, Telefonica etc) in the next 10 years. This research focusses on how telcos are transforming their business in terms of their internal operations and what they buy from their suppliers, and the services they sell to their customers too.


    IDC is seeking an experienced industry analyst or professional with relevant experience to manage our research into telco IT systems as maternity leave cover. This research includes Operational Support Systems (OSS), Business Support Systems (BSS), and Customer Experience solutions amongst others. The analyst would contribute and manage IDC research products, participate in bespoke projects for clients and actively promote the capabilities of IDC in this area through presentations and regular interaction with market players.


    Reporting to Research Vice President, Telco 2025. 



    Research and Analysis


    • Design research programs around the topic areas they are responsible for.
    • Undertake both primary and secondary research to elicit the data and insight required, and then write up this research for publication in IDC Continuous Information Services (CIS) within deadlines to meet IDC publication schedules.
    • Contribute to the production of content in relation to external speaking engagements for IDC and client events and external conferences.
    • Develop and maintain quality market data (market analysis and forecasts) as required in Europe.
    • Collaborate regularly with other IDC analysts in related research areas both in Europe and WW.
    • Work with Sales, Marketing, and Consulting in teams as appropriate (see below).
    • Guide analysts with various research projects.
    • Undertake regular interaction with clients both from a proactive and reactive (client inquiry) perspective.
    • Contribute and make suggestions to research and marketing plans as well as deliverable schedules.


    Sales and Marketing Support


    • Support Sales in the selling of IDC CIS and Consulting as required e.g. information on contract renewals, customer requirements and enquiry usage on a pro-active basis.
    • Support IDCS corporate aims and identify and forward potential business leads to the appropriate analyst and Sales representatives and attend sales calls with sales personnel when required.
    • Assist in the preparation of promotion/marketing materials.
    • Develop a network of relevant contacts in the telecoms industry.

    Work with the media and build a network of high-level press contacts in conjunction with Marketing.


    The successful candidate will have:

    • A strong understanding of the Telco IT Systems industry and the latest market developments gained from working from a vendor, another analyst house, a telco, or as a consultant.
    • Knowledge will include an understanding of the key dynamics in the industry which enable the successful candidate to provide guidance on how market trends are likely to affect IDC's clients, and how they need to respond.
    • Strong experience in the generation or use of market research and analysis.
    • High level of written and presentation skills in English language is essential.
    • Other European languages are an advantage but not essential.


    Candidates must have the right to work within the European Union. The preferred location for this position is London although this may be flexible for an outstanding candidate who would prefer to be based in another European location.
