  • Overview

    To meet IDC's growing demand for research and operational tools, IDC is expanding its global business in the Middle East & Africa region. The position will be located in Johannesburg, South Africa.

    Responsibilities

    • Conducting primary and secondary research on the software, cloud and IT market in the South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa
    • Authoring and publishing reports on software market technologies and IT market trends.
    • Engaging in bi-annual update of software data for various markets in the South Africa and Sub Saharan Africa
    • Conducting presentations and workshops on software market, cloud and IT trends
    • Engaging in regional and local consulting engagements either as an individual contributor or part of a team.
    • Supporting Research Director, Principal Analyst and Sales on local and regional business development and research engagements
    • Ensuring timely delivery of research and consulting engagements
    • Building market depth and thought leadership especially around software and third platform technologies such as cloud, mobile, social media, security and big data
    • Contributing regularly to media request for content and features.
    • Speaking at IDC and custom roadshows, events and honorariums.

    Qualifications

    • 7 to 8 years work experience in technology market research or market research in general.
    • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills
    • Should be able to undertake primary and secondary research activities for the South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa region.
    • Strong writing, excel and advanced presentation skills
    • Should be solutions oriented and focused on providing quality results.
    • Should be comfortable with client and project management.
    • Self-motivated and detail oriented thinker.
    • Extremly proactive and should be a multi-tasker
    • Comfortable with presenting at events and workshops
    • Should be comfortable with travelling in the South African and Sub-Saharan Africa and being part of a remote team environment.
    • Should be able to balance multiple ad-hoc engagements.
    • Should be able to support line manager with regional engagements.
    • Ability to meet strict deadlines
    • Should build strong relationships with the industry stakeholders including vendor, partner and end user community.
    • Passion for technology is a good to have.
    • Bachelors degree in marketing, market research, economics or technology. Masters are a good to have.
    • Should be fluent in English. A second language such as French would be a plus but not a necessity
    • Knowledge and relationships within the African Software sector will be advantageous
