    About the position

    IDC Europe is looking for a Senior Research Analyst to manage its mobile phone research, one of the most successful research areas.

     

    As the Senior Research Analyst in Europe, you will conduct primary and secondary research for the IDC's Mobile Phone Tracker Program. The product provides an insight into the forces shaping the mobile phones market in Western Europe and examines how mobile device manufacturers are positioned in this increasingly competitive market. This service reviews strategies, market positioning, and market shares of the different mobile phone vendors operating in the region.

     

    This role presents an opportunity to gain extensive exposure to the mobile phones market in Europe and to learn about the trends and the dynamics of the Telecom Industry.

    Responsibilities

    The purpose of this position is to work in the IDC’s European Mobile Phone Tracker Program in Europe, by gathering and coordinating information between IDC, mobile phone vendors, mobile operators and different other partners. Main areas of responsibility associated with this role among others include:

     

     Research and Analysis

    • conduct primary and secondary research and data collection from mobile phone operators, manufacturers, retailers and distributors for the 16 Western European markets covered;
    • produce comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analysis, synthetize and explain key market trends, advice on appropriate market strategies;
    • work with quantitative market sizing and forecasting analytical tools;
    • conduct and write research for reports and bulletins using both primary and secondary research to meet research schedules;
    • contribute to consulting engagements;
    • coordinate information requests from clients and IDC analysts around the world;
    • provide significant input and suggestions to research and marketing plans as well as deliverable schedules;
    • liaise with Telecoms Analysts in other local IDC offices around the world, to develop knowledge and share research methodologies.

    Sales and Marketing Support

    • Identify and forward leads to the appropriate analyst and sales representatives;
    • Participate in helping with sales by providing information on contract renewals, customer requirements and enquiry usage on a pro-active basis;
    • Assist in the preparation of promotion/marketing materials;
    • Occasionally attend sales calls with sales personnel.

     

    External Communications

    • Respond to external requests for information;
    • Develop a network of contacts in the telecoms industry;
    • Work with the media and build a network of high level press contacts.

    Qualifications

    Interested individuals that meet the following minimum requirements are encouraged to apply:

     

    • Minimum of 3-5 years job experience in a market research firm, a market intelligence division of an IT company, or a consultancy focused on IT;
    • Minimum university or college degree, BA, BSc or equivalent;
    • Good understanding of the mobile phone market
    • Ability to detect trends and patterns of information;
    • Ability to work well with tight schedules and complex team structures;
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively;
    • Excellent team player with strong execution & implementation skills;
    • Good written and verbal English skills are required and fluency in a second European language would be advantageous;
    • Good presentation skills;
    • Good phone interview skills;
    • Strong Excel (Power Pivot, PowerQuery) and PowerPoint skills
