    IDC Europe is looking for a Research Director to manage and drive its Personal Communications Devices research, one of its most successful ICT research areas.


    As the Research Director in Europe, you will have the opportunity to create and curate IDC’s research agenda to establish IDC's position as a thought-leader in the Personal Communications Device area.



    The role will involve:

    • the management of our European PC and Tablet research and related programs and publications – producing quality research, high-level market engagement, client communication and customer management.
    • drive our client computing research across the existing Device Tracker programs, research Practices and consulting projects, be the lead client computing analyst in the region internally and externally (customers, industry, press)
    • manage a team of analysts across the existing tracker programs
    • drive and/or support business development to support continued growth of PC and Tablet related revenues at both regional and/or local level in Europe. Work closely with sales.
    • drive internal processes review and changes when needed to support research and business expansion and team growth
    • undertake or participate in ad hoc or consulting projects when needed working with other analysts in the IT research and consulting groups.


    Essential to this role is the creation of written research deliverables – including market analysis documents, market forecast models, and presentations as required. These will also feed into strategic advisory and go-to-market engagements that you would be expected to deliver for clients across Europe as part of this role.


    Already well-established with a broad network in the overall IT and specifically the PC space, the ideal candidate will be able to quickly build an internal network with the key stakeholders. You will be expected to work with IDC sales, consultants and other analysts to help drive business development, proposal generation, research analysis and project fulfilment. In addition to this, a significant element of the role is to find new opportunities for improvements, operationally as well as commercially across the business, working with the analyst and consulting teams to achieve the budgeted bookings, revenue and profit targets.  


    Interested individuals that meet the following minimum requirements are encouraged to apply:

    • minimum 10 - 15 years job experience in a market research or management consulting firm, a market intelligence division of an IT company, or a consultancy focused on IT
    • minimum university or college degree, BA, BSc or equivalent
    • must be considered a "domain expert" in the PC space and be well respected as a thought-leader in the market
    • proven business development capabilities
    • experience in managing client projects and client relationships that result in repeatable business with clients
    • people management - leading and motivating internal colleagues to drive for excellence in their work
    • able to work well with tight schedules and complex team structures
    • able to articulate concepts and solutions, multi-task and handle multiple project streams
    • excellent team player with strong execution & implementation skills
    • exceptional communication skills - written and verbal mastery of English required. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, able to work both independently, consistently maintaining & meeting deadlines.


    The role will involve some travel, predominantly in Europe but occasionally to other regions.

    Individuals with professional qualitative writing samples are encouraged to submit no more than two representative samples for consideration.

    The selection process will take place in several phases, starting with an initial telephone-based discussion before progressing to a first formal interview at IDC's offices. At this stage candidates will be required to submit an example of analytical writing, based on a topic provided. A second formal interview will complete the process, during which candidates will demonstrate their presentation skills.
