Responsibilities

IIDC is seeking a Research Manager to join its Mobile Phone Tracker team within the Client Devices Tracker Research Team. The role will be part of IDC's Asia-Pacific Client Devices Tracker Research Team. The group interacts collaboratively with IDC's network of country and global analysts. The primary objective of the role is to oversee and lead research for IDCs historical and forecast data sets to ensure the highest data quality in the industry using the robust analytical tools.

  • Framing the research problem with other stakeholders
  • Conceptualizing and overseeing the verification mechanisms
  • Ensuring that quality and time benchmarks are adhered to by self/team
  • Analyzing trends in the historical and forecast data sets across multiple technologies and across all Asia/Pacific geographies
  • Bringing forward potential data outliers to Tracker analysts for review, and following up to assure concerns are addressed appropriately
  • Suggesting and implementing plans to more systematically look for outliers in the data sets through the automation of visualizations and other tools
  • Being a thought leader and leading with opinions and insights based on research
  • Presenting IDC research to clients
  • Writing reports and press releases occasionally and answering media inquiries

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years of hands-on experience in data analysis and/or data mining
  • Experience in monitoring and manipulating large data sets for quality assurance purposes, and doing trend analysis on data sets
  • Understanding of data tools and statistical techniques that automate the data quality review process and good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Good presentation skills to be able to present IDC market research to clients
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance
  • Ability to multi task and manage within tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and good communication skills
  • A team player who can seamlessly co-ordinate with Analysts to build and deliver high quality research products
  • Logical thinker and a creative problem solver
  • Understanding of technology markets is a plus (i.e. hardware and telecom)
  • Good working knowledge of Mandarin is a must
  • Minimum university or college degree, BA, BSc or equivalent, MBA preferred with specialization in subjects such as Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, etc. Strong excel skills or any certification (data manipulation, macros, statistical process, etc).
