Overview

IDC Retail Insights (RI) is seeking a Research Analyst to cover information technology in the retail industry. The analyst will be part of a team providing research-based advisory and consulting services to retail technology vendors and information technology vendors. The focus of this position is to advise on use of information technology to support business innovation and digital transformation across the industry.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the analyst will be to conduct research, produce written reports to support subscription services and support of custom research projects. These activities involve primary and secondary research as well as preparation and analysis of survey results. Other responsibilities include responding to client inquiries and providing support for sales and marketing. In this respect, the analyst will play an important role in interacting with clients to retain and expand existing business and with prospects to support development of new business.

Qualifications

The individual must have experience in the retail industry or as a retail analyst, preferably in regards to customer experience related technologies used both online and in physical stores (i.e. technologies ranging from Point-of-Sale, loyalty, merchandising, order management, ecommerce, logistics/fulfillment, customer service, payments, mobile clientelling, digital signage, consumer mobile apps, to IoT beacons). The candidate would have a knowledge of IT vendor industry, and skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods. The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interact effectively with a global retailer and technology vendor client base. 

The position calls for a highly-motivated individual with exceptional writing, presentation, and client interaction skills. The candidate should be someone eager to build or further a career as an analyst, a quick and creative thinker, who is eager to learn and to be coached.

The ideal candidate has 2-4 years working in market research and/or consulting in the retail sector focused on the application of technology solutions for retail business requirements or in a Consulting firm for Retail customers.

 

Bachelor's degree and fluency in written and oral English is required. Fluency in a second European language would be advantageous, as the research's geographical scope will be European.  Good computer skills including Excel and PowerPoint are necessary. In due course, the role will involve some travel, predominately in Europe but occasionally to other regions.
